TECHNICAL FAQs

Do I need to load any software packages onto individual computers?
No. Aside from an industry-standard Web browser, our self-contained solution is server-based and there is no additional software to load on individual computers.

What version of web-browsers do you recommend?
For the best experience, we recommend that the following web-browsers be used:

  • Mozilla Firefox ® 1.5 or greater
  • Internet Explorer ® 6.0 or greater
  • Apple Safari ® 2.0 or greater

While earlier versions of these browsers may work, they may be limited in their functionality.

Our current network has a domain that is running a Microsoft Windows ® 2000/2003 Server with Active Directory enabled. With this configuration, all of the workstations need to use the Windows 2000/2003 Server for DNS. What changes do I need to make to the network?
To work correctly in the above setup, a DNS forwarder entry pointing to the BASCOM server must be added to the DNS service on the Windows Server.

Within my network, I am already running a DHCP server; will the built-in DHCP server conflict with my existing server?
By default, the DHCP server that is built into the Global Chalkboard Server is turned off.

What needs to be done to keep the system up to date?
New updates are downloaded and installed automatically to your individual server from our Network Center as they become available.

Is your system Apple Macintosh ® compatible?
Yes, our system is fully compatible with all standard operating systems.

Do I need to perform a regular back up of the server?
No, every night the server performs a remote backup to our Network Center.
