Professional Development Workshops for Teachers

BASCOM offers a range of professional development workshops for teachers. Enhance student achievement by learning how to find, utilize and integrate BASCOM lessons and Web-based resources into your curriculum.


USING THE WEB LIBRARY & BASCOM LESSONS
Attendee Max: 16  Time: 2½-3 hrs Skill Level: Beginner

Abstract: Designed as an educator's hands-on experience of the Web Library and BASCOM's included
lessons. Teachers will learn the necessary Internet skills to guide them in finding Web-based resources for
their lessons as well as utilizing the hundreds of BASCOM-created lessons included with the Global
Chalkboard. Participants will gain an understanding of Web resource selection for particular curricular needs
and be provided a library of BASCOM-created lessons to immediately utilize the Internet in their classroom.

MAKING BASCOM LESSONS YOUR OWN
Attendee Max: 16 - Time: 2½-3 hrs - Skill Level: Intermediate
 
Prerequisites: “Using the Web Library & BASCOM Lessons”
Abstract: Designed as a quick start to using the Global Chalkboard to integrate Web resources into
classroom lessons. Participants will learn how to modify and customize BASCOM lessons to create
curriculum for their own classroom use. They will also learn the best practices for building Web-enabled
lessons.

USING THE LESSON CREATOR TO ENHANCE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Prerequisites: "Making BASCOM Lessons Your Own"
Abstract: Designed as a hands-on experience of the Lesson Creator for teachers already comfortable with
technology in the classroom. Participants will search the Web Library for resources and incorporate them into
lessons utilizing the features of the Lesson Creator. Teachers will use existing lesson plans and unit outlines
to craft lessons that will supplement existing curriculum through the inclusion of Web resources. Special
attention will be paid to creating Web-based student activities for immediate use.

USING THE LESSON CREATOR TO ENHANCE STUDENT ELA ACHIEVEMENT
Attendee Max: 16 Time: 3 hrs Skill Level: Intermediate

Prerequisites: "Making BASCOM Lessons Your Own"
Abstract: Designed for teachers of English Language Arts. Teachers will use the Web Library to find
specific Web resources for the instruction of reading, language, and literature and utilize the Lesson Creator
to align these resources to state standards and local curriculum. Each participant will generate multiple
lessons ready for immediate use and modify them for various learning environments.

USING THE LESSON CREATOR TO ENHANCE STUDENT MATH ACHIEVEMENT

Prerequisites: "Making BASCOM Lessons Your Own"
Abstract: Designed for teachers of Math. Teachers will use the Web Library to find specific Web resources
for the instruction of mathematics and utilize the Lesson Creator to align these resources to state standards
and local curriculum. Each participant will generate multiple lessons ready for immediate use and modify
them for various learning environments.

Abstract: Designed for teachers of Social Studies. Teachers will use the Web Library to find specific Web
resources for the instruction of Social Studies and utilize the Lesson Creator to align these resources to state
standards and local curriculum. Each participant will emerge with multiple lessons ready for immediate use
and modify them for various learning environments.

USING THE LESSON CREATOR TO ENHANCE STUDENT SCIENCE ACHIEVEMENT
Attendee Max: 16 Time: 3 hrs Skill Level: Intermediate

Prerequisites: "Making BASCOM Lessons Your Own"
Abstract: Designed for teachers of Science. Teachers will use the Web Library to find specific Web
resources for the instruction of Science and utilize the Lesson Creator to align these resources to state
standards and local curriculum. Each participant will emerge with multiple lessons ready for immediate use
and modify them for various learning environments.

USING THE LESSON CREATOR TO ENHANCE STUDENT ESL ACHIEVEMENT
Attendee Max: 16 Time: 3 hrs Skill Level: Intermediate
 
Prerequisites: "Making BASCOM Lessons Your Own"
Abstract: Designed for teachers of ESL. Teachers will use the Web Library to find specific Web resources
for the instruction of ESL and utilize the Lesson Creator to align these resources to state standards and local
curriculum. Each participant will emerge with multiple lessons ready for immediate use and modify them for
various learning environments.

CREATING RUBRICS TO ASSESS STUDENT PERFORMANCE
Attendee Max: 16 Time: 3-4 hrs Skill Level: Intermediate

Prerequisites: "Making BASCOM Lessons Your Own"
Abstract: Designed for those with little or no experience in writing rubrics. Participants will learn the
components of rubrics and how to effectively measure student performance using them. Special attention will
be paid to writing clear and concise objectives and evaluation descriptions. Participants will learn the
definition and history of rubrics, how to view lessons already created in the Global Chalkboard and how to
write all components of a rubric for an existing lesson.

CREATING STUDENT PROJECTS USING POWERPOINT
Attendee Max: 16 Time: 3 hrs Skill Level: Beginner

Prerequisites: "Making BASCOM Lessons Your Own"
Abstract: Designed for those with little or no experience using PowerPoint. Participants will learn the basic
features of PowerPoint by completing a lesson as students would. Use of design templates and addition of
text and graphics to augment the presentation will be emphasized. Participants will become familiar with the
fundamentals necessary for their students to create effective presentations in class, and will learn how to
gather online information to be included in a presentation, how to organize a basic 3-4 slide PowerPoint
presentation and how to edit the text, pictures and design of their presentation.

USING POWERPOINT AS A TEACHING TOOL
Attendee Max: 16 Time: 3 hrs Skill Level: Intermediate

Prerequisites: “Creating Student Projects Using PowerPoint”
Abstract: Designed for those with some experience using PowerPoint. Participants will learn the advanced
features of PowerPoint by creating a presentation with the purpose of delivering information to students.
They will learn to use PowerPoint as a way for teachers to deliver lessons and how to apply advanced
features such as transitions and custom animations to a presentation. The objective of this training is to
enhance the effectiveness of PowerPoint as a classroom tool for students and teachers.

THE ADVANCED LESSON CREATOR WORKSHOP
Attendee Max: 16 Time: 3 hrs Skill Level: Advanced

Prerequisites: "Using the Lesson Creator to Enhance Student Achievement"
Abstract: Designed for the experienced user of the Lesson Creator. Participants learn advanced features to
further customize student Internet access for powerful learning experiences. Special attention is paid to
Internet address management and advanced override capabilities.
